United Nations Charter Before House Soon

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Thursday The new charter of the United Nations will be placed before Parliament and a vote taken on its ratification as early as possible in the present 'session,” said the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) on his return from San Francisco this afternoon. The report of the New Zealand delegation on its work at the conference would shortly be in the hands of the printer, and the earliest convenient opportunity would be taken to present it to the House. Along with, the text of the Charter it would form the subject of a full debate. It was his intention to propose most earnestly that the Charter be ratified, but before a decision was made it was essential that both Parliament and the public appreciate what was involved. The fact that Parliament was now in session might result in New Zealand being among the first of the United Nations to make a decision with respect to ratification of the Charter.
