Squadron-Leader W. F. Jordan, son of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London (Mr W. J. Jordan) has been mentioned in despatches for the second time. He is a signals officer with a wing in Ihc Tactical Air Force. His first mention in despatches was for services connected with the invasion of Normandy and the second was for work in Holland and Germany. The manager of the Rangataiki Plains Dairy Co., Ltd.. Mr. J. Rutnerford formerly of Hikurangi, retired after 20 years service with the company. Mr. Rutherford began as a boy at a skimming station in the South Island and rose to the position of manager at the age of 21. He came to the North Island in 1902 and managed butter factories at Bell Block. Te Aroha and Hikurangi. before no went to the Rangataiki Plains company at Edgecombe. During that time he was a successful competitor in butter manufacturing classes at many shows.
In last night’s “Advocate" appeared an interview with a returned prisoner oi war. T/W.G'.II. N. I*. Philips, of Waimate North, and whose parents reside in CairnHeld Road, Whangarei. With the article appeared a photograph, which actually was that ol' Pie O. Phillips, son ol Mr. and Mrs. S. H Phillips, of Wallace Street. Whangarei, also freed, but who has remained in England. The correct photograph will appeal - later.
