12,000,000 Tons Of Food
(Rec. 1 p.m.) WASHINGTON. May 6. Continental Europe will need 12,000.000 tons of imported Joed in the 12 months from August, 1940, to improve the diets ot liberated areas and prevent. large-scale starvation in enemy territory, according 1c the United States Department ot Agriculture. This total could consist largely of wheat, but should also include substantial quantities of fats, meat, eggs, dairy products and sugar. European food production during the current season is estimated to drop from 5 to 10 per cent, below last year’s level.
