Russia Hails “Monty”
LONDON, May 5 Field-Marshal Montgomery’s victory and his great bag of Germans is hailed by the Russian people, says Reuter’s Moscow correspondent. The people are watching with mounting excitement the developments of what is felt to be the last days of the European war. The British Field-Marshal is already “Monty” to millions of Russians, although they are sometimes uncertain which syllable to accent.
Dunkirk. —The German garrison at Dunkirk made an ' offensive sortie today. Afterward, the Allies fired leaflets into the fortress, setting out the catastrophic plight of the German armies.
