Ladies’ Gardening Club Holds Dahlia Show
The first indoor meeting or the Ladies Gardening Club held at the Presbyterian Hall on April 9. took the form of a dahlia and flower shew. A large gathering el members attended. Miss Clark-Walker (vice-president) occupied the chair, and welcomed new' members. A paper compiled by Mrs. W. Logan was read, giving general hints on methods of keeping cut flowers fresh and arranging flowers for exhibition, points, etc. Mrs. Nicholls, a life member of the club (now residing in Auckland), who gave a short account of the success site had ox petienced this season in raising dahlias from selected seed, which, incidentally, was sent to her from Whangarei. Inspired by the success of a small exhibition held, last year, (lie OKib decided to stage a similar one to open the season. The response by members was so satisfactory that no difficulty was found in filling nil the considerable space provided The dahlias formed a most comprehensivedisplay. which also included some veryearly varieties of chrysanthemums.
