26 Teams To Date In Whangarei Rugby
Six senior, seven junior, seven third grade, and six fourth grade teams have so far been nominated to compete in competitions arranged by the Whangarei Rugby Football Union during the ensuing season, according to information given at a meeting of the executive this week. It was stated that it had been arranged for high school teams to be seconded to city teams in third and fourth grade competitions. It is anticipated also that several fifth grade teams will be entered, thus necessitating the playing of fourth and fifth grade games at 11 o’clock on Saturday mornings. * The season starts on April 28 with a series of practice matches, while nominations close on April 30. Competitions are due to commence on May 12.
Decision was made to challenge for the Harding, Brake and Powell shields during the ensuing season. With a return to representative fixtures, it was thought that an extra attraction would be provided Whangarei football this season. In addition, return matches against Northern Wairoa and Bay of- Islands are to be played.
