Borough Valuation

The Tow’ll Clerk (Mr. L. O. Hall) reported to the Whangarei Borough Council last night that the last valuation of the borough by the ValuerGeneral was dated April 1, 1937, which meant that the revaluation actually took place in 1935-36 when -the borough was creeping out of the depression years. In the aggregate the unimproved value of the borough was £IOO,OOO less than in the 1925 valuation. Recent figures seemed to indicate that this valuation was not evenly spread and that the time had arrived for its revision, it being recommended that the council should seek a revaluation of the unimproved values. Cr. D. L. Ross advised caution as the position was difficult at-the present time with costs high. The recommendation was adopted. The Mayor (Mr. W. Jones) said that probably two years would elapse after an application for revaluation had been made, before the work could be carried out.
