Destroy New Jap Convoy
(Noon.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 1. General MacArthur’s communique says that American planes destroyed another convoy bound for Grmoc. A 9000-ton troop transport and three small freighter-transports were sunk and a 5000-ton freighter and a destroyer set on fire without being able to unload. All except one of the small freighters were struck by fighters in divebombing attacks at mast-height. The small freighter was sunk by one of the American night patrols. Part of the convoy was caught off Masbate and part off Cebu and Mindoro. The transports were heavily loaded. The enemy loss is estimated at 5000 men. This is the seventh convoy destroyed ami brings the enemy’s sea losses in reinforcements attempts to Leyte to 26,000 men, 29 transports, aggregating 103,750 tens, in addition to 13 escort vessels. Despite heavy rains, American troops continue their pressure on all fronts. Enemy air activity was negligible. Six enemy planes were shot down by fighters. The Americans lost two planes. American naval units which bombarded Ormoc on Monday sank an enemy submarine near the harbour. Heavy units bombed Natina and Daliao aerodromes. Davao, destroying four planes in dispersal areas. Medium units sank a small freighter and barge off the north-east coast of Borneo. Night patrol planes hit a large enemy vessel westward of Miri. Patrol planes sank a small freighter northeastward of Koepang, causing many casualties. Between October 21 and November 2G, 81st Army Division units killed 1300 Japanese and captured 142 prisoners on P<4eliu, says a Pacific Fleet communique. Our forces lost 92 killed, 622 wounded, and five missing. General MacAnhur has announced 7th Division infantry repulsed Japanese suicidal charges south of Ormoc.
