Rumolo’s Possible Role In Philippines

(Rec. 12.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day, Brigadier-General Carlos Romulo, the last man to leave 1 Bataan, will return to the Philippines with General MacArthur, He has reached South-West Pacific headquarters from America. Romulo is a brig-adier-general of the Philippines as well as the United States Army, and a member of the Philippines Cabinet in exile. He is regarded by some Pacific observers as a logical contender for the Presidency when the Philippines are liberated. Brigadier-General Romulo’s escape from Bataan was made in a parched-up plane as the Japanese over-ran the peninsula. The Japanese had put a price on his head after Brigadier-General Romulo had written a series of articles condemning Japanese ambitions in East Asia.

Formerly editor of a chain of Filipino newspapers, Brigadier-General Romulo was inducted into the United States Army early in the Philippines campaign. He was later appointed aide to General MacArthur.

Brigadier-General Romulo left the South-West Pacific area for America in June, 1942, and has since lectured in 466 American cities. Manila radio has announced that the Philippines Government has been reduced to a mere skeleton force, due to present emergency.
