Little Future For Small Ports, Capt. Price Says

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Speaking in a private capacity from the experience of 20 years at sea, Captain R. E. Price, who is chairman ol: the Waterfront Control Committee, stated his objections to the creation of a separate port to serve the Hutt Valley. He said that experience gained in centralisation of shipping, and the substantial Savings so made during the war, were such that it was unlikely that shipping companies would wish to return to working small ports. , He considered also that post-war snips would be of a larger tonnage, entailing heavier out-goings in construction and maintenance of smaller ports for their accommodation. Facilities at Wellington Harbour today were adequate to hand.e 70 009 tens weekly.
