Freyberg Subscribes £SOO

A personal subscription of £SOO to the Victory Loan is being made by Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., Officer Commanding the New Zealand Division in the Middle East. Advice of this, and also that General Freyberg expects to be back with the division in about 10 days, has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. The message from General Freyberg states: “Thank you for your good wishes. I am making excellent progress. The wound is healed and I am about again, and I expect to be back with the division in 10 days. I have just read that the Victory Loan will close in a few days. Realising the importance of this loan at the present stage in the war, I am sending you £SOO to help, and at the same time wish you every success in achieving your full amount/' General Freyberg was recently injured in an air crash in Italy. During his absence the division is commanded by Brigadier C. E. Weir, who was given the temporary rank of majorgeneral.
