Complaints At Way Loan Telegrams Were Delivered
(Special) AUCKLAND. This Day Complaints were made by several residents of Auckland over the week-end regarding the method adopted by the aulh-. crities in distributing a large number oi telegrams signed by the Prime Minister asking for support for the Victory Loan campaign.
It was stated that many telegrams were delivered by men in mufti which, when combined with the fact that they were urgent telegrams from Wellington, causeo unnecessary anxiety to many women with sons and husbands in tnr forces overseas.
When asked to comment on fit l ' complaints. the Chief Postmaster at Auckland (Mr C. Clark), admitted that some telegrams had been delivered by men m mufti. His office had received large numbers of those telegrams which had to be delivered within a certain time. Instead of the required 50 messenger beys, tne Post Office had oni/ three, as well as iX women. To distribute the telegrams in the required timed it had been necessary to enlist the services of other officers including chauffeurs. “I realise that some people probably were given a shock, but we had no option." concluded Mr Clark.
