Barr, of Motuokn, has been appointed headmaster of ihe Knikohe District High School in succession to Mr. IT. Cox, now ai Opotiki.

Mrs. Ken Given, of the Whangarei Hospital staff, has had cabled advice from Italy that Ken has received a commission, and that he has been transferred from the Gth Field Ambulance to the Advance Base Camp Hospital. Lieutenant Given is the elder sen of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Given, Powhiri Avenue. He was educated at the Whangarei High School. He completed hi? pharmaceutical exams and left New Zealand with an early echelon.
