Nazi Potato Harvest.
(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 29. Germany's potato harvest is the worst for many years, including last year’s, which was officially described as millions of tons below that of 1942. says the Stockholm, correspondent .of “The Times.” The deputy Food Minister (Reicke) stated that there were food difficulties ahead, though the position was far from catastrophic as in 1918.
Reicke added that recent bread restrictions and rationing of other everyday commodities, would not easily be borne. A campaign has been opened for the gathering of fruits in the forests, including wild berries, roots and mushrooms, largely with the help of children.
The grain harvest is described as average. The Germans, with a good grain harvest last year and imports from the Ukraine, were able to eke out the diminished potato harvest, but this is impossible in the coming winter.
