Britain, U.S., Soviet Talks Reach Large Measure Of Agreement
(1.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON. Sept. 29
Conversations between British. American and Russian delegations ington regarding the establishment of a world security organisation are now completed, says a joint statement. These conversations have been most useful and led in a large measure to agreement on recommendations for a general framework of the organisation, particularly for machinery required to maintain peace and security.
Three delegations are reporting to their respective Governments who will consider the reports and in due course issue a simultaneous statement on them. j
The State Department revealed that Mr. Stettinius in his closing speech said: ‘We have every reason for satisfaction with what has been accomplished. We have developed a wide area of agreement on fundamental and necessary principles for international organisation to maintain peace and security. The Russian delegate (M. Gromyko) expressed appreciation of the friendly atmosphere and said that conversations had undoubtedly been useful. Sir Alexander Cadogan said: ‘We sometimes found ourselves in disagreement, but I believe we disagreed amiably and reasonably. Each of us at some time was in opposition to the other two delegations, but even if we considered the views of the other two peculiar, we recognised they were sincerely held and therefore worthy of respect. I believe this is a good augury for the future."
