Good Prices For Whangarei Jerseys
Six bulls offered at the 22nd national sale at Hamilton yesterday by Dr. G. Walker, of Whangarei, the only Northland Jersey breeder to be represented, were sold for an average of 85, gns.
Highest price of the six was brought by Beaulieu Lord Don with 135gns., while Beaulieu Miles returned 105gns, Beaulieu Factor 90gns, Beaulieu Butterman 80gns., Beaulieu Snowman 50 gns.. and,.Beaulieu Brook 47{»gns. Two of the bulls did not* travel well and were not at their best.
Beaulieu Factor won third prize for two year olds while Beaulieu Miles won third prize for yearlings. Son of a bull sold by Dr Walker at the national sale two years ago was sold to an Australian buyer for lOOgns.
Recently Dr Walker has sold several of his Jerseys privately at high three figure prices. Two two-year-old bulls went to Nelson this week and one yearling went to Taranaki, while two heifers went to Morrinsville and one to a Sydney buyer. The top price for the day at the national sale was for the grand champion of the show, the bull Lily Oak Star Prince, which was owned by A. C. Smith, of Tauranga, and was sold to W. J. Freeth, of Taranaki, for SlOg'ns. Abbeville Royal Lighter, owned by Madame M. J. de Guise Roussell, of Mangere, brought the next highest price, 300gns„ being purchased by Tizard Bros., of Kopu. Mr G. H. Seed, of Matamata, purchased Greenlane Golden Squire, the property of J. P. Revel 1, of Pukekohe. for 285gns. The average price for the first 55 bulls sold at the sale today was lOfigns.
