Three Years’ Borstal For Theft At Whangarei
(Spec.) AUCKLAND, This Day Trevor William Garrett, 18, who had admitted the offence of house-breaking at Whangarei. was sentenced by Mr Justice Fair today to detention for three years in a borstal institution. In reply to counsel’s plea for probation, the judge pointed out that Garrett had behaved badly in the past four years, and. despite terms at Wereroa Training Farm and Mt. Albert Home he had not made any effort to reform. He had gone from his home in the city to Whangarei, and there moved about from one employment to another in quick succession. Finally he went to live with a man of suitable character, and, on quarelling with him, left the place but came back and broke in and stole goods. Garrett required the strict discipline which he would receive at Borstal and the length of detention there would depend on his conduct.
