Advance Into Buraia
(Rec. 1 p.rn.) COLOMEO. August 19 Enemy positions astride the Tiddim Road, a mile north of the Burma frontier, which are under heavy assault, have been by-passed by 14th Army troops. In wide outflanking movements. British ancl Indian regiments have crossed the border and are now one mile inside Burma.
In the Kabaw Valley, on the Tamu-Sit-taung track, the Japanese have been driven from positions 19 miles east of Tamil. Further north, our troops are in contact with the enemy on a secondary track tc Chindwin. Heavy Patrol Actions
A south-east Asia communique states (hat units of Kachin Levies engaged in heavy patrol actions at tne confluence of the Nam, Tibet: and Irrawaddy Rivers. The 36th Division further consolidated its positions north of Pinbaw. On the Tiddim road the main force of the enemy rearguards has again withdrawn. Allied aircraft maintained tne offensive in strength against the enemy in the region cf the Tiddim road, Kabaw Valley and Chindwin River, and also gave strong support to ground troops south-west of Taungni, on the Mandalay line. Lcng-range fighters in a strike over the Taungup-Prome road, caused a landslide with rocket projectiles.
