Confidential Information As the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce took an intense interest in townplanning, ii stated in a letter to the Whangarei Borough Council last night, it asked if the council could disclose information concerning what the town-plan-ning committee had in view concerning the proposed bus terminal and also the site for the central post office. The Mayor (Mr. W. Jones) said that the council could not disclose the proposed location of the central post office, as the information from the Government was confidential, and the question of a bus terminal could net. be decided until the Government’s decision was confirmed. It was decided to advise the chamber to this effect, and that when information was available the chamber would be notified.

Oncralii Road Improvement “The time has come to deal with the dangerous corner known as the Bluff, on the Onerahi Road, near the town basis," said Cr. H. W. James at the monthly meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council. Traffic on the road was increasing, and would increase and spoil could be used for the borough refuse dump. It was decided that the engineer (Mr. I. A. Cromie) should report on what improvements could be made. Cr. D. L.~ Ross drew attention to the dangers of the footpath ending suddenly in the vicinity of the bluff, and the engineer was also instructed to report on a safeguard, and also on, the condition of the road, at the borough boundary mentioned by Cr. R. J. N. Crosby.

House, Street Numbers Suggesting that numbers on houses should be of standard size and placed on gateposts in a uniform and prominent position, the branch secretary of the Auckland Road Transport and Motor and Horse Drivers and Assistants’ Industrial Union of Workers wrote to the Whangarei Borough Council last night. Tiie names of streets should be in a uniform position at each end of the intersection of streets and in a uniform place, prefer ably on a telephone or power-pole, whichever was tin; nearest to the corner, the union suggested. The Mayor said the question had been before the council before, but the difficulty had been manpower and material, but £25 had been already provided for the purpose on this s'ear's estimates.

More Kaikohe State Houses Immediately the present group of eight or nine State houses building in Bisset Road, Kaikohe, are completed it is intended to go on with the construction of a further eight houses on the Housing Department’s property along the Mangakahia Road, where it is eventually planned , to erect '2B dwellings.
