Jap. Shipping Blasted By Allied Bombers
SYDNEY, This Day. Japanese war and merchant shipping in waters around Dutch Now Guinea and to the north have been heavily punished by General MacArthur's bombers. ■ Near Halmahera a destroyer was sunk, and two ether vessels were damaged, while at Manokwari two direct bomb-hits left a second destroyer dead in the water and probably in a sinking condition. A small freighter and two troop-laden barges were sunk in the same area. Allied air patrols over the American beachhead on Biak Island shot down 10 Japanese fighters. American ground forces are continuing their drive towards the cluster of enemy-held airfields on Biak.
