Need For Forceful Application of Bush Care Regulations
Regulations for the preservation of native hush railed l'or more forceful application and might well be* carried a step further, states the president of the North Auckland Forest Society (.\lr. J. D. Mitchell), in his annual report, to be presented to the annual meeting in Wiiaiigaroi tonight.
There ajready was legislation requiring that State permission be obtained for the cutting of bush on private property.
“Adornment of the countryside, man’s aesthetic, sense and historical association might also be expressed through the retention of our trees," stated the president, in his report. "Nature may have been engaged for many years, and indeed for centuries, in tier work of creation. Yet, during the transitory ownership of less than 1.2 months, it is possible for bus’ll or trees to cease to exist. This, in fact, lias actually happened, and in many instances a subsequent owner would be prepared to forfeit more than their basic cash value to have seen them retained."

Referring to membership of the society Mr. Mitchell states that at the end _of lasi year the roll stood at 120. 1 Hiring the year 40 members had been enrolled, the net gain being 22, as IT members had been lost.
Completion of the purchase of Mackesy's Push had been effected, and therefore a furl her valuable addition had bw-n made to the Parahaki reserves. Referring to the death of four members, .Messrs. N. Drummond. F. Elliott. .) .Mackie and .J. K. Woolley, Mr. Mitelo U recalled their lively concern in the affairs of the society, and extended its sympathy to their relatives.
