Mr J. G. Barclay, who has been appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to the Commonwealth of Australia, returned to Whangarei last night, after spending some days in Wellington. Mrs and Mr Barclay leave Whangarei on Sunday en route for Australia.
The death has occurred on active service of Lieut.-Colonel Stanley. He served in Greece as a senior stall intelligence officer with the British and had the closest contact with the Nc-w Zealand and Australian divisions.
The A.M.P. Society announces the following staff changes consequent on the death of Mr W. R. J. Smythe. district manager at Auckland. Mr V. J. Wise, district manager at Invercargill and formerly district manager at Whangarei. to fill the vacant position at Auckland. Mr B. J. Millar, district manager at Greymouth. to replace Mr Wise at Invercargill and the Greymouth district office will be in charge ol Miss W, K. Reid, a senior officer from Wellington. iMr W. A. Scott, district manager at New Plymouth, has also been transferred to Dunedin to fill tno vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr G. W. G. Davies. Advice has been received by Mrs A. E. McMasters, of Waro, that her son. Private Richard Edward Callaghan, who was taken prisoner during the fighting at El Alamein was in a Prisoner-of-War Assembly Camp at Padova, Italy in February of this year. It is not known if Private Callaghan has since been transferred to Germany,
