Anzac Day Parade Down Fifth Avenue
* NEW YORK, April 20. After a parade in Fifth Avenue, mere than 200 airmen attended an Anzac Day service at the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas. Air-Marshal "Williams and AirCommodore Findlay read the lessons.
Addressing the congregation, the New Zealand Prime Minister tllon. P. Fraser) lauded the Australian, New Zealand and Canadian war efforts. He said that nevertheless. because of their geographical positions, they had not fully felt the impact of the war as had Britain. , Mr. Fraser referred to the miracle of American production and thanked the people and Government services for their co-operation and assistance. New Zealanders had had a grand opportunty of appreciating and understanding Americans during their training for the Tarawa assault.. The boys were a credit to America.
Mr. Fraser disclaimed any interest in United States domestic politics, but euhgised Ihe great man heading the Administration, who stood as a Colossus aim world-wide friend of Democracy. He added that he had' never met two men possessing such faith in each other as Mr. Curtin in General MacArthur and General MacArthur in Mr. Curtin. Special Anzac services were also held in St. Patrick's Cathedral. A reception held at the YY’aldort Astoria Hotel was attended by Mr. Fraser, Mr. Beasley and members of the British Parliamentary delegation and other prominent people. At Malta A two-minute silence was observed at Malta to commemorate Anzac Day. The New Zealand-born president of the. Anzac Day Committee (Brigadier Clark) laid wreaths on the War Memorial in the presence of representatives of the New Zealand and Australian Air Forces. Ottawa Ccvcmcny Official advice received in Wellington states that the New Zealand High Commissioner in Canada (Hon. D. Wilson), in company with the Australian High Commissioner (Sir William Glasgow), and supported by members of the R.N.Z. A.F. and R.A.A.F, placed wreaths on behalf of the people of New Zealand at the National War Memorial. Ottawa, in a simple Anzac Day observance.
