Baltic Shipping Held Up
LONDON, April 25 Shipping in the Southern Baltic was largely immebilised in the latter half of last week after the R.A.F. mine-laying raid on April 19, reports the correspondent of “The Times.” Thirty merchantmen of from 10CO to 3000 tons assembled last Sunday at Trelleborg, south-east of Maimo. awaiting clearance of the sea lanes. The majority of them, after news that the Germans had cancelled the mines warning, put to sea yesterday morning, but returned within two hours to avoid fresh danger from mines. Swedish shipping circles believe that the Allies are using a new type of mine and also suggest that the Germans’ minesweeping is less efficient because of war losses.
Two German ferries left Trelleborg on Sunday, carrying railway Red Cross coaches containing German wounded from Finland. Fresh mines .prevented the remainder of the train from leaving yesterday. \
