Fire Photos Of Lovely Girls At U.S. Troops
(Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, April 12. The Germans are now using antitank rocket-guns in the battle around CassinO, says Reuter’s correspondent at Allied headquarters in Italy. New Zealand troops 'just relieved frem inside Cassino say they saw walls crumbled by these guns and felt the ground shake as heavy shells from long-x-ange guns crashed among the ruins. The Germans are firing by shell into the American lines in Italy propaganda leaflets with pictures of attractive, lonely girls “waiting for their doughboys,” adds the correspondent. Other nostalgic leaflets remind the troops of the days when they went dancing and were able to eat juicy steaks. Some leaflets carry cartoons suggesting that Mr Roosevelt wants to use the unemployed as cannon fodder anu provide contracts for his wealthy backers. “It is a rich man’s war. but a poor man’s fight,” say the leaflets.
Jabbing at Cassino The Germans are jabbing at the Allied lines north of Cassino, reports Reuter’s correspondent at advanced headquarters, Italy. , Allied artillery repulsed a small enemy attack which was supported by intense mortar fire. The Germans simultaneously heavily shelled Castle HiTi on the norfh-west edge of the town. The beachhead generally is quiet. A German thrust three miles south of Carrocetto was repulsed. Allied bombers carried out further widespread attacks in the area hinging on Florence, which is a vital communications centre. These attacks are a continuation of the Allied air offensive to cripple Kesselririg’s communication links between Northern and Central Italy.
The German News Agency says that air battles between German fighters and American bomber formations were fought at noon over the southern border area of Germany, particularly in the area of Neusiedler Lake (the extreme eastern tip of Austria), and the Eastern Alps. A number of fourengined bombers were destroyed or forced to make emergency landings.
