Protect Ex-servicemen In Farms, Businesses,
Protection of returned servicemen and women in the purchase of farms and businesses and in gaining admission to trade unions with closed lists of members is the aim of the Whangarei Returned Services Association. Remits brought forward by Mr K M. Stevens were considered at a meeting of the Whangarei executive .this week and after a long discussion the following were approved for presentation at the Dominion council meeting at Wellington, usually held in June: —
That any man or woman who sold a farm or business to permit him or hei to join the Armed Forces shall have the right to buy same at a fair price but not less than what the farm or business was sold for. That returned servicemen or women have the right, until all are rehabilitated. to buy at fair price any business carried on by an alien.
That returned servicemen or women have the right to buy at a fair price any business (not actively operated by a returned serviceman) that has commenced operations or has been acquired since September 3, 1939. That any trade union that has a closed list of members shall open same to returned soldiers, ejecting men who have joined since September 3, 1939.
