Warrants Falsely Cashed
(Special) KAWAKAWA; This Day. Three charges of obtaining money from ilie Social Security Department by false pretences, and -another charge of false representation of a signature landed William Lord, aged 37. freezing-works employee, of Moerewa. in trouble before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., sitting at Kawakawa.
Pleading guilty on all counts and electing summary jurisdiction. Lord was charged that he had obtained falsely £2/12/- on each of three dates—October 22, November 24, and December 3—all at Auckland. He was convicted on the three false pretences charges and was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. He was ordered to refund a .total of £7/IG/- to the Social Security Department within three months. Lord, who was not represented by counsel, had been in the Army but had been discharged to go into essential work. It was alleged that he had falsely represented that the signature “A. J. Lord" on rehabilitation warrants was that of Audrey Jean Lord, his wife, from whom he was mutually separated. Warrants for £3/10/in respect of himself and for £l/6/ in respect of his wife had been forwarded to him and he had cashed them. On this charge. Lord was fined £5.
