N.Z. Pacific Soldiers Digging For Victory

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A requisition recently received by the National Patriotic Fund Board from the senior commissioner in the Pacific (Major Brain), includes a variety of seeds for vegetable growing. “We are confronted with the problem of vegetables for our clubs,” he explains, “and so propose to start our own vegetable garden.” Besides these seeds, which cover, the usual line of vegetables in New Zealand. the requisition includes garden implements. A' report from Flight-Lieut. J. R. Herbert, the board’s commissioner with a New Zealand Air Force unit in the Pacific, gives details of a visit to various units and provision made for their welfare.

“As far as lies within my power as the board’s representative all will receive their full quota of patriotic supplies with priority to those airmen in the most forward area,” he says. “Transport in some cases will be difficult, but this will be overcome.” He hopes to be able to visit all units at least once every two months.

He reports that two sailing boats donated by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Richmond Yacht Club have arrived in first-class order. They could do with more of them as they are providing excellent means of recreation. The board Res also received a report that the yacht it gave with an outboard motor is being put to good use for recreational purposes.
