Opposition Not Responsible For Delay
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day “The Opposition is in no way responsible for any delays in Parliament settling down to business which the public expected, and were informed, demanded urgent attention,’’ said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland), in a statement commenting on the adjournment of the House fi’om Thursday night to Wednesday afternoon. “The business of the House is entirely the responsibility of the Government. We of the Opposition have been prepared to sit outside the usual prescribed hours in order to reach the normal business to come before the House. If the Government is not ready to proceed, members of the House, collectively, should not be blamed. Notice of the calling together of Parliament on February 22 was announced on January 24 by the "Act-ing-Prime Minister, and the Government has had'plenty of time in which to draw up its programme for this part of the session. The Opposition was consulted neither as to business nor date. We asked that the House should be called earlier than February 22 so that urgent questions could be considered.”
