Food Production Across The Tasman
(Rec. 12.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Total collapse of Australia’s food production was inevitable unless a single Ministry for Food Was appointed to wipe out all the irritating, contradictory regulations and conditions being imposed by different departments, said Dr Earle Page (Country Party) in the House of Repre-. sentatives.
Dr Page has been appointed to the Advisory War Council, replacing the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Menzies) who has resigned.
In the same debate, ihe Leader of the Country Party (Mr Fadden) said that conditions in rural industries had reached a danger point. “It is ludicrous for the Government to conduct a Commonwealthwide drive to increase production, when producers cannot get manpower.” Mr Fadden declared. Both Mr Fadden and Dr. Page said there had been a fall in Australia’s food production but the Minister for Commerce (Mr Scully) claimed that there had been a “substantial all-over increase.” The debate was talked out:.
