Harbour Board Lease For Lime Works
The li>ase of three acres at the Kaifuna reclamation for the production of lime for farming and other products was granted by the Whangarei Harbour Board, subject to £2OOO being expended within two years of the conclusion of the war The application was made on behalf o( the Kamo colleries. the term being ten years with the right of renewal on valuation. The upset rental for the first term was £25 per annum.
Questioned by the chairman, the see rotary said he understood the company had in mind the burning of white lime stone to mix with the crushed stone from Limestone Island which would make a good agricultural lime. The procesr would require the burning of a certain quantity of coal.
The chairman to whom would we look! The secretary: Kamo Colleries. •Mr. Allan thought 10 years too lone with the possibility of nothing being done He favoured a five-year term. Mr. K. Stevens thought the area ideal for pampas grass, and the board would likely make more out of it than lime. The chairman thought something definite should be arranged regarding the company operating. Mr. Hewlett moved that the tender be accepted on the board’s terms subject to £2OOO being expended within two vears qf the conclusion of the war. This was carried, the chairman remarking that he hoped to see a good up-to-date factorv established on the site.
