Advocate Steam Plant For Electric Supply
(Special) AUCKLAND, This Day. Decisions reached at a regional conference of electric power authorities held at Hamilton were reported upon by the chairman (Mr. S. f-larbutt) at a meeting of the Auckland Power Board. Mr. Harbutt said that the conference was advised that following a deputation to the Government, a committee of engineers had been set up to confer with the Minister for Works (Hon. R. Semple) and his officers on various offers that had been received for installing a steam plant. The Minister had undertaken to place the matter before Cabinet and it was hoped that the association would receive an early and satisfactory reply. The conference passed resolutions endorsing the attitude of the executive of the Power Boards' Association and special committee of engineers, urging the Government/ seriously to consider ordering this additional plant and pressing for an early decision. The conference again affirmed the principle of development of small hydroelectric schemes and asked the executive again to bring the matter before the Government.
