Tennis For Nurses At Kawakawa Hospital
(Special) KAWAKAWA, This Day. Stating that the tennis court within the hospital grounds was in a hopeless slate of disrepair and mentioning the board’s eventual plan to build over its site, the medical superintendent of the Kawakawa Public Hospital (Dr G. J. Frengley) told members at their meeting on Saturday that he had obtained the consent of the Kawakawa Tennis Club executive to the all-day use of their club courts bv all nurses at the hospital for a total annual fee of £lO/10/-.
Dr Frengley said he had spoken to the nurses, who were enthusiastic, and strongly recommended the board to accept the tennis club’s offer. He was convinced that the board would be getting excellent value for th eexpenditure. The secretary (Mr P. S. S. Stanley) said he was of the opinion that the nurses should be given every chance to enjoy life. The board would recognise that it was incumbent upon it to provide some sports facility. “It is extremely difficult,” he added, “to get girls to come to Kawakawa. It is too far away. Matron’s hardest job is to get staff to come here.” The chairman (Mr H. M. Cookson) asked if it were not- possible to extend the facility to include the domestic staff. It was resolved to accept the club’s offer with respect to the nurses.
