Attack Cassel (Night) Frankfurt (Day)
(8.0. W. 1 p.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 4. Today American Fortresses based on Britain gave the German river port of Frankfurt its first daylight raid. It was the Allies’ sixth raid on Germany since Friday morning. United States Thunderbolts went out with the bombers and shot down 19 enemy aircraft. How many bombers are missing is not yet known but not one fighter is missing.
Last night's R.A.F. attack was directed on Cassel just east of the Ruhr and it is officially' described as very heavy. Preliminary reports' say our bombs caused great damage. We dropped 1500 tons of bombs in half an hour. Twenty-four of our aircraft are missing.
At the same time Mosquitoes were over Hanover >and other Mosquitoes bombed objectives in the Rhineland and mines were laid in enemv waters.
Canadian Mosquitoes were over northern France and the Low Countries on intruder patrols.
