Allies Position Risky In Dodecanese

(Rec. 11 a.m.)

LONDON. Oct. 4

Berlin radio tonight claimed that German landing forces which attacked Kos Island had captured all military installations. The “New York Times” correspondent (Mr. Cyrus Sulzburger) says that the Allies have a rather risky position on the islands they have taken in the Dodecanese. These islands of Kos, Leros and Samos are more accessible to German reinforo rnents than Allied reinforcements which must come from the Middle East.

The Allied position on the islands will depend largely on the Italian garrison’s willingness to assist. It is impossible to predict the effectiveness of such aid. especilly when it is considered that Italian treachery recently resulted in the enemy capture of important Allied officers.
