Waikato Dairy Decline
(Special)
HAMILTON, Monday
Wet, cold and stormy weather, relieved only occasionally by fine conditions. has marked the opening of the 1943-44 dairying season in the Waikato, Pastures are backward and production is much below normal. A spell of warm weather would be of incalculable benefit in promoting the growth of feed and' stimulating the butterfat yield.
Losses among stock have been heavy owing to the bitterly cold weather and excessive moisture, and calves and lambs have been detrimentally affected by the conditions. Honey producers are also concerned about the unfavourable weather and the prospects for the new season. Many ol them are still feeding out. sugar to keep their bees alive. The flooding of access roads has interfered with transport, and has added to the difficulties.
