Election Policy Was In Opened Letter
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “They got the right one didn’t they,” said the Leader of the National Party (Mr. S. G. Holland) when he referred at Papanui last night to a letter in his mail that had been opened. He said his hearers would remember the incident some months ago and the statement of the Prime Minister that the letter should not have been opened. “I can 1 tell you now what was in
the letter that was opened so that
you can see whether it was just accidental,” said Mr. Holland. “It contained a draft of the National
Party’s election plpicy.” Mr. Holland said*that during his election tour the postmaster at one town had come to his secretary and told him that another letter had been found opened. An interjector: Was he a Nationalist?
Mr. Holland: No, he was a public servant and he was deeply concerned that his department was suspect.
