(P.A.t WELLINGTON. This Day. Pleas for extension of family benefits to all children irrespective of parents’ income was made by the Hon. T. Bloodworth (Auckland) in the Legislative Council yesterday in the second reading of the- discussion cf the Social Security Amendment Bill. The Hon. M. Connelly (Ctago) said he would oppose the working people being taxed to provide family allowance for wealthy people. The Bill was passed without amendment. The Council also passed the Servicemen’s Settlements and Land Sales Bill, Appropriation Bill. Age Benefits and Invalids Benefits (reciprocity with Australia) Bill. . Sneaking on the Statutes Amendment Bill. Mr Blood worth said he had nev-r seen any reason for a commercial broadcasting service which had not conferred a pennyworth of benefit on any one in New Zealand and he hoped it would be abolished. He sincerely regretted that Parliament was broadcast. He had been horrified to hear what people said about Parliament as a result of hearing over the air onlv one side of the work. The Leader of the Council (Hon. D. Wilson, Wellington) said that he had no: received one protest. The debate was interrupted by the tea adiournmeni. After the tea adjournment last night the Legislative Council passed without amendment the Emergency Regulations Amendment Bill, Statutes Amendment Bill and local Legislation Bill, and adjourned to 10.30 a.m. reday.
