Hail And Farewell At Matapouri
On July ,1 a dance was held in the
Matapouri Hall to farewell Mr and Mrs Tom O'Carroll. who are leaving the district. Mrs O’Carroll, who has been teaching bore for nearly six years, has been appointed to the intermediate District High School in Whangarei. Settlers from near and far were present to bid this popular couple farewell. During the evening a presentation from friends in Ngunguru, Tutukaka, Matapouri and \1 aipaipai was made to the guests in apprcciatio?. of their help in everything jn thr- district, whether it were school or sports clubs, or just helping some o»r who might be shorthanded. A happy evening was brought to a close by singing "Attld Lang Syne.” Welcome Home On July 17 the Matapouri Hall was again a scene of gaiety, when a dance was held to welcome home two of the Milligan brothers—Bill and Charlie—who have just arrived on furlough from the Middle East. On the arrival of their party in the hall all stood up and applauded them. Mr Morrison made a short welcoming speech. Then dancing, with a short break for supper, was carried on till midnight, when the party closed with the hearty singing of “Auld Lang syne.”
