Post-War Outlook For Rubber
WASHINGTON, July 22. The Japanese have accumulated such quantities of rubber from conquered territories that a million tons are on hand which were promised to Italy and Germany after the war. This has been learned by the Netherlands Information Bureau, which says that the Japanese constructed in Java a large freighter built of rubber which was scheduled to carry a cargo to Japan and then be scrapped for its rubber content. U.S. State-controlled Rubber The American Government owns industrial facilities representing an investment of 25,000,000,000 dollars, said Mr. Jesse Jones, broadcasting. “This vast industrial empire can give invaluable aid in rebuilding the national economy if effectively allocated to private industry after the war.” Mr. Jones said the Government owns ICO per .cent, of synthetic rubber plants, three big and 120 small steel plants, 92 per cent, of magnesium production, also sufficient aluminium plants to supply America’s peacetime needs.
