Title Retained A notice in last night'* Gazette states that His Majesty the King has approved of the retention of title of honourable by Mr* Frank Dang-stone, who has served for more than three years as Member of the Executive Council of New Zealand.
Potatoes, Fertilisers By orders published in last night's Gazette prohibition of the use of seed potatoes for' table or other uses, apart from planting, imposed last year is extended to cover the present season, and the fertiliser ration for the season is lixed at the same level as last year.
A Warrior Family At a military annexe in Auckland an unusual family re-union took place when Mr. and Mrs. Timoko, of Kaikohe, accompanied by their two sons. Sergeant B. Timoko and Private T. Timoko who has just returned on furlough, visited a third son. Private I. Timoko who has been returned from overseas wounded. Other relatives were also present to complete the happy gathering.
Gum-boot Supplies “Gum-boots are being sold at auction, bringing £5 a pair, and people are using them who do not need them as badly as we do,” said a shareholder at the annual meeting of the Maungatapere Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., at Maungatapere today. He asked if any gum-boot supplies were being made ava.ilaable to farmers through the dairy factories or shops. He was told that endeavours had been made to have gum-boots released to farmers but without success. They could be left at the factory to be sent for repair, but this entailed about six weeks before they were returned.
Emergency Refuge For Pets An interesting question was brought under the notice of the committee of the S.P.C.A. on Wednesday evening, when the ladies’ committee suggested that a system should be formulated whereby in time of disaster, epidemic, or similar visitation, the birds and animals of stricken people might be cared for. This would require personnel willing lo undertake such work, and there would also need to be provided accommodation for birds and animals, The committee held over the matter for future consideration. The need for some provision of the kind suggested was admitted, but the difficulties in the way of carrying it out were regarded as substantial.
