W.W.S.A. Transport Examinations

Following' is a letter received by Ike Whangarei branch of the vV.'V.S A. from the Institute of Automotive Engineers, Australia, in announcing the success of transport section girls who sat for the recent examination: — "The examiners who have been marking papers covering transport examinations held on April 23 last, have passed some zery c. rplimentary opinions on the high standard attained by the girls. “Mr. Stewart, chairman of the Institute, takes a very close personal interest in these transport examinations, and has asked me to convey to you his own great satisfaction at the high standard reached by these candidates. '“We feel that these examinations reflect a great deal of credit on the organisation of'the W.W.S.A., and the results achieved merit some publicity. Very little seems to be known by the general public of the work being done by the transport section, together with their instructors, and as the knowledge gained by the girls is a national asset, I am giving you a few facts which you may desire to use for puoiicity pur poses. “The examination itself is by no meanri an easy one, and proficiency to mis standard is a commendable effort. To pass this examination requires no little practical knowledge, and it can be taken tnat successful candidates have a very good grounding in the operation of the engine and other parts of automotive vehicles That is to say, your successful girls are very well qualified by practical instruction to drive vehicles with the maximum id safety and skill. The benefits to the community derived from this sounflly-learned course of instruction arc obvious." It is interesting to know that of (140 girls who sat for the latest examination, 85 per cent, passed, as against 70 per cent, at the previous examination. Whangarei Transport Signallers

The new course of instruction for the transport section of the W.W.S.A. is in The capable hands of Lieut. Morris, worshop officer at the 6th M.T. workshops. The girls are to have practical demonstrations, and Lieut. Morris hopes to have their course completed in readiness for the examination in August. The signals section is being organised by Lieut. Trenwith, signals officer at Area 3. The instructors have just had the iatest methods of signalling demonstrated at Trentham, and are now A 1 instructors. In addition to the Wednesday evening I'lass, some of the more proficient girls are having' special practice at the barracks in order to increase their speed. The former section leader of this group has been selected ,I'cr service overseas.
