Germany Combing Scrap

LONDON, May IG. The Reich Minister for Economics (Walter Funk) announced that 60,000 depots had been established for the collection of scrap—old boots, clothes and metal. “Our enemies’ hopes of crippling German resistance must be put to shame.” said Funk. “New material resources must be produced. Our soldiers must be reequippeu and munition workers clothed.” Germans are being given receipts for scrap, which suggests the collection is not entirely voluntary, but subject to Nazi Party control.
