Knocked Down Aged Woman; Fined £5

Resulting from an accident in which a woman 85 years of age was knocked down in Water Street and injured, Peter Batistich was charged in the Whangarei Court with driving a motor-car without due care and attention. Constable T. Agnew gave evidence that Batistich should have been able to have clear vision for between 120 and 150 yards, while Senior-Sergeant A. Henderson said that it appeared a boy in the front seat had attempted to climb on Batistich’s knee, momentarily diverting his attention. Batistich was fined £5 with costs by the magistrate (Mr. Raymond Ferner). Edward Walter Hutchins admitted not havin" sufficient lights on a truck and was fined £2 with costs, while Donald Scott Stevens, for parking more than 20 minutes, w-as fined 10/- with costs.
