Vichy, Axis Lose Empire

(Rec. 2 p.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 10. Mr Anthony Eden, in reply to a question in the House of Commons, said that Vichy Government had no authority in Africa unless in the Tunisian area held by the Axis. Indo-China nominally remained under control of Vichy but he Was not sure whether the French West Indies or French Guiana still acknowledged the authority of Vichy or not. Progress In Morocco

Mr Eden informed the House of Commons that the Commission on prisoners in North Africa reported on February 3 that 903 prisoners had been released in French Morocco, and 1442 remained in detention, of whom a list had been handed to lawyers who were appointed to investigate individual cases. Those imprisoned in Algeria were now having their cases considered.
