Germany Using New Fighter Bomber
(8.0. W., 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 10. In recent raids over Germany and in the Middle . East, R.A.F. pilots have encountered a new fighter-bomber developed from the twin-engined Merserschmitt 110. This is the Messerschmitt 210 A, which is compared in some ways with the Mosquito. It is a low-wing monoplane, carrying a crew of two, a pilot who acts as a bombaimer and radio operator, and also a rear gunner. It is designed as a longrange fighter, dive-bomber or for ground attacks. Its top speed is estimated at from 370 to 380 miles an hour at 18,000 feet, which is 30 to 40 miles faster than the earlier model. The size is similar and the armament comprises two fixed 20 millimetre guns in the nose, and two 13 millimetre guns in the barbettes controlled by the rear gunner. The bomb load is up to 2200 pounds. It is estimated that about 900 pounds of armour plate are fitted in the machine.
