All Blacks Beat Springboks at Cairo

(Official N.Z.E.F. War Correspondent) CAIRO, December 19. Brilliant flashes of his old form by All Black G. F. Hart were among the highlights of a spectacular Rugby match, in which a New Zealand team beat a South African side by 20 points to nine at Maadi Sporting Club today. A crowd estimated at 10,000—one of the biggest' ever to watch a Rugby match in the Middle East —cheered wildly as the fortunes of the teams fluctuated. The South African side was captained by Louis Babrow, brilliant centre of the 1937 Springbok team which toured New Zealand. The New Zealand side included J. L. Sullivan, who went off half-way through the first spell with a knee injury and was replaced by Arnold. The New Zealand team was Kenny. Hart, Sullivan, Brien, Shaw, Welch. Parsons, Elmes, Kirchberg Westerby, Whitton, Drankin, Glen Newlands ancl Foote.

Sercnd-Half Tries The South Africans opened the score when, after a brilliant burst by Babrow, they were awarded a penalty and Allen goaled. The first half was nearly over when Hart made a dazzling dash down the touchline and kicked in cleverly for Shaw to score. This try was scored while Sullivan was off the field and the New Zealanders were playing 14 men. Half-time came with the score six all and it looked anybody’s game, but in the second soell the New Zealanders took command. With a shrewdly placed short punt, Shaw gave Brien a try which Kenny converted. This was followed by a glorious burst by Hart after the ball had travelled along the line from Parsons to Hart, who displayed all his old speed, raced round his vis-a-vis and dived hard for the corner to score a classic try. Ten minutes later Hart made an opening on the blind side which gave Welch a try. Near the end of the game Coombe, the South African fly-half, carved his way through the centre and kicked for Hetherington to score. New Zealand points came from four tries by Shaw, Brien. Hart and Welch, and one converted by Kenny, who also kicked two penalty goals. South African points were two penalty goals by Allen and a try by Hetherington.
