Canadian Navy’s Good Work
(Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 13. The Minister for the Navy (Mr. MacDonald) stated today, according to an Ottawa message, that the Canadian Navy had received a message of congratulation from the First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. A. V. Alexander). The congratulations were on the convoy work, and, as the principal business of the Canadian Navy was submarine hunting, it might be assumed that the hunting was good. Atlantic Battle Is No Worse
Mr. MacDonald said the Battle of the Atlantic is not any worse. Ships are still going through. Canadian warships are doing one-third of the escort, United States is doing a third, and the British are doing likewise. In addition Canadian ships are convoying north and south, operating •down to the Caribbean. Mr. MacDonald said Canada was making every effort to keep submarines out. of the St. Lawrence, but it was impossible to guarantee that a submarine would not come in. They could enter almost any area.
