Carmen Knocked Out By Tenor

NEW YORK, August 10.

The opera singer. Gladys Swarthout, was accidentally knocked out during a performance of “Carmen” at Soldier’s Field. Chicago. The tenor. Jan Kiepura, spurned Madame Swarthout so realistically during a love quarrel scene that her head struck the stage violently. Madame Swarthout was carried from the stage and revived. She then returned and completed the opera. While playing “Mignon” at Chicago two years ago Madame Swarthout was also knocked out by an enthusiastic male singer. Madame Swarthout commented: "I always leave Chicago feeling that I have .been mixed up in a prize fight.”
