To administer the Bicycle Tyre and . Tube Regulations, the Minister for i Supply has appointed Messrs. C. V. • Stringer, D. Garton and H. W. Davies . to act as a commiltee' in the district extending from Wellsford in the south , to Kawakawa in the north. It is now necessary for any person requiring a bicycle tyre or tube to make written application either to the committee or a retail cycle dealer. The function of the committee is to consider each application on its merits, and to allot tyres or,'and tubes to those necessitous cases in accordance with supplies available. The quota allotted to this district for the month of August is 60 tyres and tubes. Distribution is governed on a priority basis. Armed forces and workers engaged on defence work take precedence. Workers engaged in essential production and distribution come next. Then follows Government and local body administration, including the maintenance of law and order. Next in priority arc workers engaged in health, medical and education service, school children and persons suffering from physical disability. Then follows workers engaged in the distribution of newspapers and workers engaged in industry and business not covered by the above. Applicants for tyres or tubes must show that they have to travel at least li miles each way per day and have no abernative means of transport available.

At a meeting of the committee held recently, Mr. C. V. Stringer was elected chairman and Mr. li. W. Davies secretary. It was resolved tu write to all headmasters of schools in Ihe district requesting them to impress upon the pupils the necessity of conserving the tyres and tubes of their bicycles,, and that no new tyres or tubes could be procured by children who had to travel less than 11 miles to and from school.

Several applications for tyres and tubes were received from dealers, the committee approving of all applications with one exception. This application was made by a firm on behalf of three employees. It was resolved to write to the firm in question informing them that only applications signed by the individual requiring tyres and tubes can be considered.
